PROGRAMME

Arrival: tea, coffee and introductions.  Meet the team who will give an overview of their experience and expertise.

  • PHASE 1: 1.5 hours: Creating psychological safety (disintegration to reintegration)

your team will work with a music therapist who will facilitate group musical activities that will bring the team together in a way that feels safe to explore the elements of music that are physiologically present.  That means we will explore how music is a proto-language (it primed us for language from infancy) and is therefore present within all of us though we often don’t realise this. Think of how we talk and move.

  • PHASE 2: 1.5  hours: Entering a state of flow: Composition

After phase one we expect that inhibitions will have reduced as the reward system of the brain begins to take over.  The team may fall into different roles within the musical group and naturally begin to form its own structure.

Through further musical activities, the aim of this stage of the process is to help the team begin to tap into the flow state through group safety and cohesion to write the lyrics for their song.  We will use some psychological exercises with musical engagement to help this process emerge.

LUNCH (1 HOUR)

  • PHASE 3: 2 hours: RECORDING & Production

The team will work together to decide the musical parameters of their creation – what vibe will it have?  The team will identify roles and decide who does what.  Samples from the morning exercise can be worked into the production.  They will be guided by experts to help do this.  There are a number of ways to be creative in the studio beyond singing and playing an instrument, such as music production, sound wave manipulation, creative direction, however we will encourage teams to step a little out of their comfort zone in the spirit of discovery.

  • PHASE 4: 45 min: De-brief, Celebration and Close

Taking this into the real world.  Facilitators can offer observations of team dynamics and help your team explore what you’ve discovered in the day and how that might be taken into the everyday.
